Furniture Assembly Is Only Half the Job: Don’t Forget Wall Anchoring
New furniture still in its box? Learn why careful assembly, proper placement, and manufacturer-required wall anchoring belong together.
A new dresser, bookshelf, or storage cabinet can make a room feel organized—until you open the box and find dozens of panels, screws, and instructions.
Getting everything assembled correctly matters. So does making sure furniture that requires wall anchoring is secured before you start using it.
From a flat box to furniture you can use
A smooth assembly starts with checking the parts, following the manufacturer’s instructions, and protecting the floor while the pieces come together.
Small details make a difference: drawers should slide properly, doors should line up, and the finished piece should sit level. Loose connections or misplaced hardware can leave furniture feeling unstable.
Before booking assembly, send a photo of the box label or a link to the exact product. That helps identify the size, assembly requirements, and any anchoring instructions.
Why wall anchoring deserves attention
Tall or top-heavy furniture can tip over. Opening drawers, climbing, or pulling on a piece can affect its stability—especially around children.
Follow the manufacturer’s anchoring instructions. The attachment method needs to suit both the furniture and the wall construction; one type of fastener does not work for every wall.
An anti-tip kit should be installed correctly before the furniture is used. If the manufacturer requires anchoring, assembly is not finished until that step is completed.
Plan the placement before assembly
Measure the space and decide where the furniture will stay. Check door clearance, nearby outlets, and baseboards that might affect positioning.
For renters, check your lease or ask the property manager about wall attachments before scheduling. Mention any unusual wall material or restrictions when requesting an estimate.
